About Mattei

Rotary-vane technology

Continuous innovation and advanced design capabilities drive the development of our rotary-vane air compressors. These are more efficient than other types of rotary compressors, with longer operational lives and a lower cost of ownership, thanks to:

  • Lower rotational speed
  • High volumetric efficiency
  • No roller or thrust bearings
  • Fewer moving parts
  • Good specific energy efficiency (kW/m³/min)
  • Lower off-load power consumption

Choosing the ideal compressor

How to choose a compressor

Air compressors – operating principles

  • Each of our rotary-vane compressors consists of a stator cylinder containing a rotor, which is fixed off-centre but parallel to the cylinder’s sides
  • The rotor has slots, within which the unit’s blades – guaranteed for 100,000 hours – slide freely
  • During rotation, centrifugal force keeps the vanes in constant contact with the cylinder’s sides; in conjunction with a continuous film of oil, this creates a near-perfect airtight seal for greater volumetric efficiency
  • Mattei air compressors run on oiled white-metal bushes requiring no planned maintenance
  • No axial thrust, so the cylinder sides are free of wear and tear, and no rotating bearings or thrust bearings are required
  • Multi-stage oil separation system ensures a consistent supply of high quality clean air
  • Compact, streamlined design and easy, robust operation

Gas compressors – operating principles

  • Modulating proportional valve regulates gas delivery to exact requirements
  • Inside the compression chamber, rotary vanes contain and compress the gas
  • Differential internal pressure pumps oil through the system, which lubricates the compressor so no metal parts directly contact each other, and cools the gas
  • Three-stage oil separation system ensures a consistent supply of clean gas
  • Rotor, blades, stator and end covers are cast in high-quality iron, so boost efficiency, don’t need replacing, operate 100% reliably, and extend gas-end life

Certified quality and best practice

Mattei is certified to ISO9001 since 1994.

Direct coupling

A typical Mattei compressor has a flexible joint that directly couples the air end and electric motor. With no energy lost driving pulley wheels and drive belts, our machines always run at maximum efficiency.

Priced very competitively, our BLADE series machines do have drive belts. However vane-compressor efficiency, plus an air-end running slower than the motor, means these machines still produce more air per kW of power than other rotary compressor types.

Mattei advantages

Lower energy costs. Mattei compressors use as little as 5.4kW to produce 1m³ of air per minute.

Minimal maintenance costs. Our high-quality machined rotary-vane compressors have blades designed for operating lives of 100,000 hours. Easy access, plus dedicated maintenance kits, makes servicing these machines quick and simple.

Cost comparison

Safe and reliable. Integrated design, direct coupling, low rotational speed and fewer moving parts make Mattei rotary-vane air-compressors more safe, durable and reliable. Boosting performance, a high-efficiency cabinet pre-filter stops air impurities from prematurely blocking the radiator and main air filter.

Easy to install and access. Our air compressors are quick to install, and compact with small footprints – so they can be placed almost anywhere. What’s more, accessible designs make maintenance simple.

Quiet. Mattei rotary-vane air compressors provide pure rotary motion with low noise levels. Enhancing this, most have a layer of internal soundproofing.

Quality air. Mattei compressors feature generously sized filtering systems that guarantee quality compressed air suitable for any application. Efficient, multi-stage oil-separation systems produce exceptionally low lubricant carry-over – typically just 1-3 parts per million.

Total quality management

Ensuring the quality of Mattei products are various manufacturing processes and protocols including:

  • Quality control using state-of-the-art 3-D measuring machines
  • Comprehensive testing procedures for different operating conditions
  • Robotic machining centres for the production of compression units and blades

Leakage detection

We can help you reduce the air or gas your system loses to leaks, and therefore further cut your energy costs. We can provide you with a full leakage detection and repair-management programme, or a simple survey, tag and report service. These are quick and verifiable, and you’ll usually recoup your investment within three months.
